Chelsea Football Club is a professional soccer club that competes in the English Premier League (EPL), the top league in English soccer. Chelsea was founded in 1905 as a member of the Football League. The club was one of 22 members to join the EPL when it was founded in 1992. Chelsea has historically been one of the most successful clubs in England with over 30 competitive honors and 6 top league championships, 5 in the EPL. Chelsea has never been relegated from the EPL, but they have finished as low as 14th in the league. The club has finished at the top of the EPL five times, most recently in 2016-2017. Since 1992, Chelsea has won the FA Cup seven times and the EFL Cup four times. They won the Champions League in 2011-2012 and the Europa League in 2012-2013 and 2018-2019. Chelsea has played their home matches at Stamford Bridge in Fulham, London, since 1876. The stadium currently holds 40,834 people but expansions will have it up to 63,000 by 2023-2024. The club will play home matches at Wembley Stadium until renovations are complete.
