The club was founded in 1878 and has played in England’s top soccer division for 116 seasons, which is an English soccer record. Everton has missed the top division just four times and not since 1953-1954. The club, which is nicknamed both “The Blues” and “The Toffees,” was one of 22 members to join the EPL when it was founded in 1992. Everton has yet to be relegated out of the EPL, but they have finished as low as 17th three times. Their highest finish was 4th place at the end of the 2004-2005 season. Since 1992, Everton has won the FA Cup one time, and they were the runner-up team in 2008-2009. The club’s only appearance in the Champions League came in 2005-2005 when they made it to the third qualifying round. Everton plays its home matches at Goodison Park in Liverpool, England. Goodison Park seats 39,572 people and has been Everton’s home since 1892.
