Burnley Football Club is a professional soccer club that competes in the English Premier League (EPL), the top league in English soccer. Burnley was founded in 1882 and became one of the original twelve members of The Football League in 1888. Burnley is one of just five teams to have won all four of the top professional divisions of English soccer. Wolves, Preston North End, Sheffield United, and Portsmouth are the others. Burnley was not one of the original 22 members of the EPL and did not get promoted to England’s top league until 2009-2010. It was quickly demoted the following year before making it back to the EPL for another one-year stint in 2014-2015. After winning the Championship in 2015-2016, Burnley was once again promoted to the EPL where it has stayed since. Burnley finished in 7th place in the EPL in 2017-2018 but otherwise has not had a finish above 15th place. Burnley plays its home matches at Turf Moor in Lancashire, England. Opened in 1883, it was one of the last remaining stadiums in England to have the players’ tunnel and dressing rooms directly behind the goal before expanding the seating to its current capacity of 21,944 in 2014.
