Aston Villa Football Club is a professional soccer club that competes in the English Premier League (EPL), the top league in English soccer. Aston Villa was founded in 1874 and became one of the founding members of The Football League in 1888. Then, 104 years later, they became of the 22 founding members of the English Premier League in 1992. The club stayed in the EPL never finished higher than 5th but stayed in the EPL until after the 2015-2016 season when they were demoted to the Championship. Aston Villa made it back to the EPL in 2019-2020. Since 1992, Aston Villa has had some success in English tournaments, winning the League Cup twice and being runners-up in the 1999-2000 FA Cup. The club has yet to appear in the UEFA Champions League but does have two appearances in the UEFA Europa League. In their history, Aston Villa has won the League Championship seven times (before the EPL), the FA Cup seven times, the League Cup five times, and the European Cup once. Aston Villa has played its home matches at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, since 1897. The stadium seats 42,785.
