The San Diego Padres are a professional baseball team that plays in Major League Baseball (MLB). The Padres are a member of the West division in the National League (NL). The Padres were founded in 1969 and have been one of the least successful franchises in the MLB since their inception. The team has just 14 winning seasons in franchise history. They have won the NL West division title five times and won two NL Pennants (1984, 1998). However, they have yet to win a World Series title and have won just one World Series game out of nine tries.

The Padres play their home games at Petco Park in San Diego, California. Petco Park is considered to be one of the most beautiful ballparks in the Major Leagues. The Padres have had three players inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame – Tony Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, and Dave Winfield. Hoffman has the second most saves in MLB history behind only Mariano Rivera. Gwynn is considered by many to be the greatest hitter in MLB history. The 15 time All-Star and 8 time NL batting champion never played a full season where he batted under .300. The Padres have not made the playoffs since 2006 and have been one of the worst franchises of the past decade.
