Alright, maybe doing a blog where I talk about how a Dodgers sweep in the World Series feels imminent the day after they win game 1 by 5 runs is cheating, but I’m doing it anyway. There are four teams in the MLB that I will root against no matter the circumstance: the Red Sox, Mets, Dodgers, and Astros. So, you can imagine how much of a nightmare these past few years in baseball have been for me.
Now, here we are in 2020 with the Tampa Bay Rays up against the Dodgers for the World Series, and the outcome seems inevitable. So, for the third time in four years, it looks like one of my least favorite teams is going to win the World Series. That’s why I’ve just decided that I don’t care this year.
I love what the Rays have done to get to this point (despite the fact that it meant beating the Yankees), but this feels like 2008 all over again, right? The Rays have made a magical run to get to the World Series only to end up facing a far superior opponent on the other side. In 2008, it was a gentleman’s sweep, but this year seems to be trending towards an actual sweep.
The Rays have great pitching, but it’s no match for what should easily be considered a top-5 lineup of the century. And their hitting might stand a chance against a Dodgers rotation that has been their one Achilles’ Heel this season, but it’s far too dependent on the home run at this point. It also doesn’t help that Brandon Lowe is having a tougher time at the plate than Daniel Cabrera (props to you if you get that reference).
I don’t want to write this whole thing and not give props to the Dodgers, so here they are. They’re an incredible team, and it seems like this will be the year that they finally break through. Have they completely underachieved up to this point? Yeah, obviously. But all that can be forgiven with a World Series victory at a neutral site with no fans in this fake 60-game season.
With the outcome inevitable, I have no interest in watching this series. I’ll stick to enjoying Clare and the boys on ABC.
